In the fall of 2023, the Texas Medical Center revealed a bold piece of art in Helix Park: the large-scale “TMC” letters installation.
Commissioned for the grand opening of TMC Helix Park and unveiled during the State of TMC on October 26, 2023, the bold letter installation now serves as a vibrant focal point in the heart of the park. Each letter was hand-painted live by Houston-based visual artist David Maldonado, whose work blends folkloric symbolism, street art influences, and rich narrative detail. Maldonado’s design incorporates vivid blues and greens that echo the natural elements found throughout Helix Park, lush grass, flowing water, and native plantings.
The structural design and fabrication of the letters were led by UXD Murals, a creative studio recognized for its expertise in interactive design and large-scale public installations.
